Statins may actually make your heart health worse

Written By Unieke sieraden on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 | 2:40 AM

Statin drugs benefit just 1 percent of the population. This means that out of 100 people treated with the drugs, one person will have one less heart attack. I read this when I was surfing the internet. I know that many studies are sponsored by the pharmaceutical industry, I don't trust these studies, it is not about the health of people, it is all about the money!

I'm not a doctor, but I'm worried that many drugs we are taking making us more sick than better. I have collected some videos about Statins that openend my eyes:

Injecting a gene into the brain that codes for the hormone leptin may curb overeating

Written By Unieke sieraden on Monday, October 26, 2015 | 8:19 AM

While dieting and exercise are often the first port of call for people who want to lose weight, study author Dr. Urszula Iwaniec, of Oregon State University, and colleagues note that such strategies often fail to have prolonged success. Leptin is a hormone secreted by adipose cells, or fat cells, that plays a role in regulating energy balance by curbing hunger. Often referred to as the "satiety hormone," leptin works by sending signals to the brain that tell us when to stop eating.

Most people who are obese are highly unlikely to ever return to a normal weight

Written By Unieke sieraden on Friday, July 17, 2015 | 4:39 AM

The study, published in the American Journal of Public Health, suggests that current public health attempts to fix obesity are failing to show results. The researchers tracked the weight of 279,000 men and women through British health records between 2004 and 2014. They used three or more measurements of their body mass index (BMI) to track their weight changes. Patients who underwent bariatric surgery or other weight-altering procedures were excluded from the study. Read more: International Business Times

Children of obese parents are most at risk of becoming obese.

Written By Unieke sieraden on Thursday, March 28, 2013 | 4:44 AM

The study is based on data from a population-based cohort of 2,269 children aged between eight and eleven years old.
These findings are important because they confirm that in children genes play a very important role in determining body weight. Researchers used a new method called Genome-wide Complex Trait Analysis (GCTA), to investigate the molecular genetic heritability of body weight in children. At present only a few genetic variants have been discovered, and these explain a very small amount of individual differences in body weight (~2%). These findings suggest there are hundreds of other genetic variants influencing body weight that are yet to be discovered.

Foods that makes you hungry

Written By Unieke sieraden on Monday, January 16, 2012 | 2:46 AM

Hunger is one of the biggest issues when you are on a diet. It's the most typical problem that people will encounter. But there are some foods that you need to avoid when you are dieting. Here is an example of 4 foods that can increase your hunger levels.
Sugary Cereals: Are bad for your diet and increase your hunger levels.  Eating ceareals you become very hungry after eating them, why? You are going to get a huge blood sugar spike after eating this food. This is then followed by a sharp decline as insulin is released and comes and sucks all that glucose from the blood, giving you a decline of blood sugar, what makes you hungry again! For breakfast you can better eat oatmeal without sugar or bran cereal, it helps to control your hunger levels.

Slim Weight Patch

White rice: makes you hungry for much the same reason as sugary cereals. When the blood sugar levels drop, this sets of the hunger signal inside the brain that's going to prompt you to definitely eat more food.

Snack bars: In regards to hunger, snack bars will be very problematic. The problem here is that these will tend to be very low in total protein and sometimes fat content, it cannot balance out the carbohydrates. After consuming them you can experience a increase in your blood sugar and then sudden decrease in energy levels. The result of this is a boost to your blood sugar, that will make you have very depleted energy levels. As Snacking will reduce energy, many people will continue to snack more throughout the day to try recover their energy levels. As eating more it will make you eat more calories, and you will find it harder to lose weight.

Slim Weight Patch

Candy: candy is one of the one of the worst foods as far as hunger is concerned. While you may feel like this gives you a good energy burst and quickly fills you up, that's just the sugar high talking!  Candy made out of pure sugar is even worse for you from your diet perspective than snack foods that contain fat, because at least with the addition of fat you will not see quite the shoot in blood sugar levels. Candy can actually be much worse for you then snack bats. Candy will therefore give you a quick sugar rush, followed by a quick loss of energy. Many people will experience a dramatic increase in blood sugar levels when eating candy, as it contains pure sugar.

Adult obesity rates increased in 16 states during the past year

Written By Unieke sieraden on Saturday, July 9, 2011 | 7:42 AM

The new report breaks down obesity rates and anti-obesity initiatives by state, regions, and ethnic groups and also documents the rise in obesity-related diseases such as diabetes and high blood pressure. In the past year, obesity rates rose in 16 states and fell in none, according to the eighth annual "F As In Fat" report, prepared jointly by the Trust for America's Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Twelve states now have obesity rates of 30% or more, led by Mississippi at 34.4%, the report says. That's up from a single state over 30% four years ago. But the report does offer a glimmer of hope: It marks the first time that there were fewer than 20 states with increasing adult obesity rates. Source: WebMD

Lady Gaga fan of the baby food diet

Written By Unieke sieraden on Saturday, May 28, 2011 | 8:44 AM

Baby food sales are surging in supermarkets. A Coles spokeswoman said baby food sales had jumped 20 per cent in the past quarter. A Woolworths spokesman said they had experienced a 10 per cent year-on-year jump. Baby food diet advocates claim it is possible to lose 9kg in six weeks when the diet is combined with workouts.

Baby food products are subject to stricter nutrition controls than any other products, limiting salt, sugar and other additives. Pots and packets of baby food often contain between 400 and 600 kilojoules. The Jennifer Aniston version of the baby food diet is said to include up to 14 small pots a day to stave off hunger pangs, plus a regular meal of fish and steamed vegetables.

Advanced Health LTD

Dietitian Karen Inge said: "It is not an effective weight loss solution, as it has inadequate levels of calcium, fibre and kilojoules for adults, and is bland, so it will leave them hungry, bored and dissatisfied." The diet's creator is Tracy Anderson, the personal trainer who is also credited with sculpting the figures of Madonna and Gwyneth Paltrow.

She said: "Liquid cleanses do help you lose weight but you will gain more the next week. I wanted something where you can eliminate toxicity, break bad habits but still have your digestive system going. Stars including Lady Gaga, Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon and Cheryl Cole are believed to have used the baby food diet.

Jenny Craig diet program scored top ranking as best diet

Written By Unieke sieraden on Monday, May 16, 2011 | 11:34 PM

Consumer Reports largely based its decision on a recent study revealing that of 332 dieters, 92 percent stuck with the Jenny Craig diet for two years, averaging a loss of about eight percent of their total start weight. Past users say that while using Jenny Craig they were able to lose 2 to 16 times more weight than they were with other dieting systems.

R.D.K holdings S.A

They are also able to keep the weight off for much longer because Jenny Craig shows them how to remain thin as a permanent change to their lifestyle. This is perhaps the biggest difference between Jenny Craig and other weight loss systems; not only do they show their clients how to lose weight quickly and easily, but they teach them how to keep it off well after they have left the program. In fact, Jenny Craig’s main goal is to help people become independent of them- a characteristic quite unique among diet programs

The Three-hour Diet

Written By Unieke sieraden on Tuesday, March 1, 2011 | 9:26 AM

This diet is simple: eat every three hours and you’ll lose weight. The diet demands that users eat breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks in between. The author of the three-hour diet claims it can lower your body fat and burn two pounds a week without any exercise. The main meals are very specific and call for fruits and vegetables the size of DVD cases, a deck of cards sized protein, a Rubik’s cube of carbs and fat that fits in a bottle cap. However, the snacks can be anything, even candy, as long as it amounts to around 100 calories. Critics of the diet said eating more often could cause an overload on calories if you have a tendency to overeat at meals.

Dukan Diet

Written By Unieke sieraden on Saturday, October 16, 2010 | 4:03 AM

- Broaden your meat repertoire to include any quantity of lamb, roast pork and ham.(remove all fat first) once or twice a week.
- Add one serving of fruit per day (avoid high-sugar bananas, grapes, cherries, dried fruits and high-fat nuts) Enjoy two slices of wholemeal bread per day, spread with fat-reduced butter.
- Eat as much protein and vegetables (together) each day as you want without any restriction on quantity, time of day or combination.
- Have one serving (40g or 1.5oz) of hard cheese per day (but avoid blue cheese, soft cheese or goat's cheese) Factor in one serving of 'starchy foods' per week in the first half of your Consolidation Phase, increasing to two servings per week in the second half.
This includes pasta (225g or 8oz serving in tomato, not creamy, sauce and with no oil), couscous/polenta (225g or 8oz cooked in stock, not butter or oil), lentils, beans, chickpeas, rice (ideally brown) and potatoes (but only occasionally and without butter).
- Let your hair down and plan and enjoy one celebration meal a week in the first half of the Consolidation Phase, increasing to two in the second half. In this meal you really can eat whatever you want - and you should choose something you've missed during the weight-loss period.

Advanced Health LTD

But there are two important conditions
- NEVER have second helpings of the same dish and NEVER eat two celebration meals in a row (if you splurge on Tuesday night, at Wednesday's breakfast the success of your diet is on the line). Have one of each: one starter, one main, one dessert and one glass of wine, all in a reasonable quantity but only once.

The "tipping point" in obesity often occurs before two years of age

Written By Unieke sieraden on Saturday, February 13, 2010 | 2:54 AM

While many adults consider a chubby baby healthy, too many plump infants grow up to be obese teens. New research suggests that the "tipping point" in obesity often occurs before two years of age, and sometimes as early as three months, when the child is learning how much and what to eat. This study comes in the midst of alarming rates of childhood obesity, which now ranks as one of the most prominent health concerns in the United States today. While some hospitals have begun offering healthy eating and weight loss program for children, what hasn't been as clear is how early to intervene.

Capsiplex can burn calories while you sit at your desk

Written By Unieke sieraden on Monday, December 28, 2009 | 5:46 AM

Capsiplex's makers say the capsule, which is made from hot peppers and capsicum and is used by Hollywood stars Jennifer Lopez, Brad Pitt and Britney Spears, can eat up as many calories as 80 minutes of walking or a 25-minute jog. Trials at the University of Oklahoma showed adults taking Capsiplex burned off 278 more calories before, during and after a bout of exercise than those on placebos. A spokesman for Capsiplex said: 'For decades, scientists have known about the weight-loss potential of red-hot peppers. The problem has been the ability to consume such a highly concentrated amount, but we have overcome this by putting a protective coating on the ingredients which stops any gastric irritation.

Children who drink full-fat milk are less likely to become overweight

Written By Unieke sieraden on Wednesday, November 11, 2009 | 3:13 AM

It said that a study of eight-year-old children found that those who drank the most full-fat milk had a lower body mass index (BMI). The finding that full-fat milk was associated with lower BMI is unexpected and the researcher herself was surprised by this. Two theories are put forward: either the children who drink full-fat milk have fewer snacks and sugary drinks, or their diets.

Both theories are plausible, but these results need to be repeated in a larger group of children to see if the same links are found. People should not give their children full-fat milk to reduce their BMI on the basis of this research.

New anti-obesity drug Liraglutide significantly reduce weight

The drug, liraglutide, is the first of a new class of anti-obesity agents which mimic the action of a hormone that occurs naturally in the gut, reducing hunger. Experts said it had "great potential" because it also reduced the risk factors for Type 2 diabetes and heart disease. Diabetes already affects more than two million people in Britain and is rising so fast it threatens to overwhelm the National Health Service (NHS). "It tells the body to produce more insulin and the brain to stop eating. It is a naturally occurring satiety hormone. "The problem is that it is eliminated from the blood stream within minutes. The company (Novo Nordisk) has added a molecule to make it more resistant to elimination, so it lasts for a full day." Read more: NZHerald

Being overweight is not just the result of personal choices about what you eat

Written By Unieke sieraden on Sunday, September 20, 2009 | 1:45 AM

Prevalence of obesity in infants under 6 months had risen 73 percent since 1980. 'Since they're eating only formula or breast milk, and never exactly got a lot of exercise, the obvious explanations for obesity don't work for babies,' he points out. 'You have to look beyond the obvious.' The search for the non-obvious has led to a familiar villain: early-life exposure to traces of chemicals in the environment. Evidence has been steadily accumulating that certain hormone-mimicking pollutants, ubiquitous in the food chain, have two previously unsuspected effects.

They act on genes in the developing fetus and newborn to turn more precursor cells into fat cells, which stay with you for life. And they may alter metabolic rate, so that the body hoards calories rather than burning them, like a physiological Scrooge. 'The evidence now emerging says that being overweight is not just the result of personal choices about what you eat, combined with inactivity,' says Retha Newbold of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) in North Carolina, part of the National Institutes of Health."

Experimental obesity drug Qnexa helps diabetics

Written By Unieke sieraden on Wednesday, June 10, 2009 | 2:36 AM

Qnexa was shown to improve blood sugar control through weight loss in obese patients with type 2 diabetes. The one-year trial results for the weight loss drug sent the company's shares up nearly 6 percent after hours. The study also showed that Qnexa had a positive impact on other risk factors associated with diseases prevalent in people living with diabetes, according to Vivus.
The trial showed that patients treated with Qnexa achieved a 1.6 percent reduction in hemoglobin A1c, a key indicator of blood sugar control, compared with a drop of 1.1 percent in the placebo group.

Patients taking Qnexa also lost an average of 9.4 percent of their body weight, compared with 2.7 percent for the placebo group. In addition, the study showed that Qnexa had a positive impact on other risk factors associated with diabetes, including blood pressure and triglycerides. Data from the study was presented during the American Diabetes Association’s annual meeting in New Orleans.
